At university, Ahmed El Amraoui combines physics and electrical engineering, as the 22-year-old is studying quantum engineering in Saarbrücken, a subject that forms an interface between natural sciences and engineering.
When not in lectures, Ahmed loves connecting people. As spokesperson for the VDE university group at Saarland University, he has already been busy recruiting members. “There were seven of us when I started, and now we’re up to 26,” says Ahmed. He is passionate about networking and enjoys attending events throughout Germany both during the semester and in the vacations, making contacts and promoting his and other electrical engineering courses. “I notice at our university that student numbers are not high and are even falling. That needs to change. Otherwise, all these exciting training opportunities that we need for a sustainable, innovative future will soon cease to exist.” This thought also drove him to join the advisory board for this edition of VDE dialog. “When I heard that it was going to be about recruiting young people, I was immediately convinced.” As a VDE member, Ahmed is already familiar with VDE dialog – and knows that it’s something special that this time the emphasis is on the perspective of younger people in order to win them over. “I think it’s a great idea to let young people decide what is written.”
