A computer no bigger than a credit card

The Raspberry Pi is a single-board computer that has everything a computer needs: a working memory, a processor and interfaces to connect a keyboard, mouse, network, monitor and power supply. Instead of a hard disk, a memory card is used to load the operating system and the required applications. The Raspberry Pi is much cheaper than a conventional computer and, most importantly, is freely programmable. It uses the relatively simple programming languages Scratch and Python. It also comes with straightforward programming examples, which make Raspberry Pi suitable for children from the age of eight to develop and run simulations, interactive animations and games themselves. Linus Musekamp, who started out with the “Raspi” himself, thinks it’s “great for getting started with programming.” The Raspberry Pi costs around €50, and many accessories are available for all kinds of projects from irrigation systems to smart home applications.
