Technology that saves lives

Medical technician Laura Unger analyzes biosignals.

Medicine or technology? At the time, the choice was not easy for Laura Unger. In the end, however, she opted for electrical engineering and information technology, as she already suspected that this would allow her to combine both her passions better. And that’s exactly what happened: she completed her doctorate at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), and is now employed at the Municipal Hospital.

As project manager for electrophysiological signal analysis, she is not only responsible for evaluating particularly complex catheter examinations, but her job also involves improving the future treatment of patients with cardiac irregularity. A vital service to humanity, or, to put it in Unger’s own words: “It’s my dream job!”
