| Sarah Kastner / VDEAfter focusing in detail two years ago in VDE dialog on the activities of our technical societies, this issue is dedicated to the second pillar on which our association rests: the engagement of the many regional chapters spread across the country. Week after week, they organize events, excursions, discussions, and opportunities for connection – often arranged by people who do this alongside their careers, studies, and family lives.
For the main feature of this issue, we have profiled eight members who exemplify the diversity of volunteer work within VDE. They represent all those who discuss standards in committees, prepare events, support university groups, plan excursions, or inspire young people to pursue technology. Their stories speak of curiosity and expertise, but also of community spirit, responsibility, and the joy of sharing knowledge. They make it clear that involvement in VDE is far more than simply fulfilling a role – it is the driving force that keeps regional activities vibrant and makes the association approachable.
They – and the many others we cannot introduce individually in this issue – have my sincere gratitude. Their dedication ensures that VDE is not only an internationally active technology association, but a vibrant network of people passionate about the challenges of the future and committed to shaping their environment. Without them, the association would be an empty shell. With them, it is what it has always been: a strong community.
