For Sandra Haas, “nerd” is not an insult but a compliment. Since studying automation technology, the 29-year-old has known that technology is what she really loves, and she has been able to follow this passion at B&R, an ABB subsidiary based in Upper Austria.
Her job is to ensure that a machine functions correctly with the help of intelligent drive technology. She does this not by tinkering with the motors themselves, but by correctly programming the associated software. Here, she enjoys the “challenge”, as she puts it. It’s about being faced with a problem, solving it with the right mathematical formulas and equations and then seeing that the machine finally does what it is supposed to do. “That’s just great.” (MSK)
